Defensemen helped Eisbären shutout Red Bull

The Eisbären defeated the EHC Red Bull München tremendously 5-0. “We had a consequent fore-checking tonight” defenseman Frank Hördler commented the team´s performance. “We have fun playing our system these days”.

Jimmy Sharrow´s puck deflection opened the scoring at 13:58 of the first. The home team had many chances during the period but only capitalized on one. They outplayed the guest´s in their own zone. Marcel Noebels received Darin Olver´s cross at the blue line and shot a high wrister from the point. Sharrow deflected it with his stick pad at the bottom of the slot area.

With Jimmy Sharrow serving a minor penalty for slashing on Munich´s Daniel Sparre his teammates kept working hard midway through the second. Being shorthanded Frank Hördler intercepted a lead pass in central ice and took it into the offensive zone. Guest´s goalie Florian Hardy expected a cross into the slot. Unfortunately for him Hördler took his chance instead. The defenseman surprised him with a quick snapper from the left point (11:17). Later on Petr Pohl made it a three goal game. The Czech winger almost couldn’t believe how much time and space he had after Florian Busch fed him the puck in the centre slot. Munich´s netminder didn´t have any chances to interfere with his well aimed wrister (16:54).

Entering the third with three goals unanswered on the board the EHC Red Bull München had to play some determined catch-up hockey. But it came even worse for the Bavarian´s. Casey Borer one-timed Laurin Braun´s quick set up from the back boards into the right angle from the slot at 04:31. Darin Olver finished off the high 5-0 scoring converting his break away opportunity with a tremendous forehand-backhand stick handling move at 16:45. “We didn´t get a lot of chances” former Eisbär Richie Regehr resumed. “They played well. First of all it is to make the playoffs and then we´ll see what happens”.
